Rockford Kabine is the aura that surrounds somebody who is in the situation that he has got nothing to lose – but is on the verge of winning everything!” Anthony Sharas, author of the here cited philosophy of life, knows what he is talking about! After all, he has lived all his life in the Ruhr Area, one of Europe`s largest subcultural ruines. And what else can a natural swimmer against the current do, than to enclose himself with a nonconformist aura that promises a fortune off the beaten track? Instant happiness, that`s what, under the pseudonymus Rockford Kabine, he and his combatant Marlon Marlon are looking for – a musical healing and a slightly different jackpot! In order to win this prize, they have chosen a new discipline, which in fact is not as new as it sounds: Snippet-Pop – the song format of astonishing efficiency! Clear and brief, full of esprit and aside the conventional route, the Bochum artists make a quick and clean sweep. They throw the hooks so rapidly at your ears, that you have to listen to them carefully to be able to feel their power. You have to take your time, even if there is none. The up to 130 seconds long lasting intense sound-wave of their lo-fi-miniatures has barely arrived when it already vanishes into the hissing undergrowth. Of course, such an musical experiment needs a very special note, something that provides the ignition spark – “Rockford Kabine” got it! Not least because of a lot of weird melodies that you fall in love with, but that disappear before the first butterfly comes out of the cocoon. But watch out, the 31 songs of their debut „Italian Music” are only just a short pleasure when they`re treated as stand-alone pieces of music, but together, like perls on a string, they are a perfect bar-diving-soundtrack for smoky nights in the red-light district. Soundtrack? Yes, a soundtrack! Because their loopy arrangements sound like Italian „spaghetti“ western, „giallo“ thrillers and softporno scores – and taste like a precious prosciutto crudo. Hypnotic beats, rock without rock, organic bass grooves, psychedelic guitar-slivers from a cineastic parallel-universe, which waits for the appropriate visualization. Minimalistic old school downbeat- and breakdancebeats provide the acoustic blueprint for Marlon Marlon, Anthony Sharas and their combatants – that`s why “Rockford Kabine” sometimes describe their own sound as "acid smurf", without denying their chosen genre that`s called snippet-pop. "Italian Music" out of the walkman will turn even your life in a real "jump and run" adventure. Level by level by level… searching for sounding happiness.
